Jan de Haan is a contemporary Dutch composer, publisher, conductor and musician. He studied trombone at the Muziek-Pedagogische Akademie in Leeuwarden between 1969 and 1973. In 1974 he started to study brass band direction under Henk van Lijnschooten at the conservatory in Utrecht and earned his diploma in 1976. After that he started working as a freelance musician, conductor and composer. He was also a producer for both television and radio and was responsible for numerous programs. Since 1983 he has been a lecturer at the Muziek-Pedagogische Akademie in Leeuwarden and owner of a music publishing company. He is the brother of composer Jacob de HaanA Discovery Fantasy was composed in 1993 for Hernanda, De Haan’s daughter and describes in five tempos (Introduction / Bolero / Rondeau / Intermezzo and Finale) the “discovery” of the world
